Action! Adventure! Wisecracks and banter! There's bound to be an extra helping of all those things in the still-in-the-works Deadpool movie, especially if Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick of Zombieland wrote the script. And any movie with all of those things wrapped around a killer Deadpool story is a movie we'd wait in long midnight lines to see. So why is it taking so freakin' long for the Deadpool movie to make it from IMDb's Page of Wishful Thinking to the big screen?
We don't pretend to understand the machinations of "The Movie Studio." We haven't a clue what makes one particular comic book movie get greenlit over another at any given time. And we're not saying Green Lantern and R.I.P.D. aren't worthy source material for movie adaptations. But for Pete's sake, movie execs! Why do you keep queuing up comic book movies in which Ryan Reynolds plays a main character who's not Deadpool? The comic book character he was born to play!
Maybe we're biased, but if so, almost every other Deadpool fan out there is probably biased, too. We've been picturing Ryan Reynolds playing Deadpool for so long that most of us can't even consider another possibility, ever since Deadpool compared himself to Ryan Reynolds during the Cable & Deadpool run and Reynolds himself started talking about how much he loves the character. We're game; he's game; heck, Deadpool is game! So where's the problem? I couldn't tell you. But what I can say, on behalf of myself and the other fans is, movie studios, please hurry up and bring us the Ryan Reynolds Deadpool movie we've been waiting for! We're not sure how much longer we — or Deadpool — can excuse the wait.
