News surrounding Marvel's upcoming superhero movie The Avengers has been quite slow ever since the first trailer was released in October, leaving Marvel, and parent company Disney, to keep The Avengers in the public eye by recently announcing that the movie would be released in 3-D (something that was widely known since the start of production was announced in April). Writer-director Joss Whedon responded by publicly stating that the movie won't be "obnoxiously 3-D".
Finally, more from the movie's cast is being revealed, as individual Avengers actors do press for other movies they are appearing in. While discussing the American remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård (who ironically did not appear in the 2009 Swedish adaptation) discussed his return in The Avengers as Erik Selvig, the character he portrayed in Thor, in an interview with Moviefone. After his appearance in the post-credits scene in Thor, Selvig is likely going to be used as a pawn in Loki's (Tom Hiddleston) evil trickery, but, however Selvig appears, Skarsgård says it won't be for too long.
Of course I am [in The Avengers]. But not very much... it's a small role. I have normal clothes and only show up briefly because people with funny costumes — that's going to be the core of it... There's a lot of people in The Avengers And I was thinking, "How on Earth are you going to get all of those superheroes in a movie and have room for them and still have a story that actually moves forward?" And, also you have to satisfy a lot of actors with at least reasonable material.

Entertainment Tonight got the first look at Thor with a site visit to the New Mexico set. Included are interviews with Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and director Kenneth Branagh, as well as a few brief behind-the-scenes glimpses of Anthony Hopkins as Odin and Idris Elba as Heimdall. Below are scenes featuring Hemsworth and Portman running alongside actors Kat Dennings and Stellan Skarsgard.

With the official synopsis for Thor only recently revealed, details on the upcoming comic book adaptation have been few aside from casting. Jon Favreau has explained that Iron Man and Iron Man 2 will take place before The Incredible Hulk, leaving where Thor fits into that timeline a huge question mark.
According to Latino Review, a source close to the project revealed where Thor fits on Marvel's movie timeline — which also includes The First Avenger: Captain America and eventually culminates in all characters teaming up in The Avengers.
In terms of time-line, Thor is set after The Incredible Hulk.In the script we make mention of gamma radiation and one of the scientist characters, I think Stellan Skarsgard's Professor Ford recalls, "There was brilliant scientist (Bruce Banner). He was a genius with gamma radiation and somehow S.H.I.E.L.D. made him disappear." So Thor's story would take place after The Incredible Hulk.
The ending of both The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man teased the upcoming Avengers, and the source claims that Thor will be no different.
Basically, at the end of the movie, Thor makes mention to Clark Gregg's character Agent Coulson that his kingdom of Asgard and S.H.I.E.L.D. are on the same side and whenever they need his help, he will be there to assist them in battle. It does leave it open, with Thor basically saying "When you need me and you want to assemble a team, I'm down." So, this is obviously pre-Avengers, post-Incredible Hulk.
The source praised Kenneth Branagh, calling the director "passionate," and describes Chris Hemsworth as "a cool guy and about as normal a guy that you'll ever meet" and "a perfect Thor." Marvel's presence on set was also praised since they have "done a really good job of trying to blend what they need to have a successful movie and what they need to keep all the fan boys happy," including Thor's costume.
Surprisingly, the costume looks amazing. We could tell early on from the production sketches of costumes and sets that this was going to be something good. It's just beautiful and the designers really took it to heart. If you look atsome of the more recent Thor comics that are out now, the tone and the costuming is that. It's basically, the way you read the comics now, they're updated the way they are now and that's how the costumes are. I think everyone is going to be very, very happy. Nothing looks cheesy or cheap. Everything looks like it's real. Everything looks like it came from that period. And everything looks right on all the actors. Nothing looks stupid. I guess that's the best word. It's just jaw-dropping even to the Marvel executives.
While Thor opens May 20, 2011, The First Avenger: Captain America will follow on July 22, 2011. Captain America director Joe Johnston says that at least half of the movie will be set in Europe during World War II, which is consistent with the original comic book origin and well before any of the other Marvel movies.

The Kenneth Branagh-led live-action adaptation of the classic Marvel Comics character Thor may have just gotten another injection of star power. After little-known actor Chris Hemsworth was cast in the title role, fans were wondering whether Captain Kirk's dad would be enough of a draw to get non-comic book fans to see the movie.
Subsequent Thor casting has proven that Branagh is looking to fill his movie with the very best that Hollywood has to offer. If the additions of Academy Award-nominated actress Natalie Portman and multiple award-winning actor Stellan Skarsgård isn't enough, the latest rumor has two-time Oscar-nominated actor Jude Law and two-time Oscar-winning actor Robert DeNiro joining the cast.
According to AICN, German-born Valkyrie actor Matthias Schweighöfer told German GQ that he is up for a role in Thor and that DeNiro and Law are already on board. There is no mention of who or what characters — this is a superhero movie with a basis in Norse mythology — DeNiro and Law would be portraying. Some rumors have DeNiro portraying Odin, the "All-Father" of Asgard and Thor's father, with Law playing Balder the Brave, Thor's confidante and (recently revealed in the Thor comic series) half-brother.
