After receiving mixed reviews at this year's Toronto International Film Festival, it was unclear whether writer-director Oren Moverman's (The Messenger) new crime drama, Rampart, would get picked up for distribution. However, the buzz generated by Woody Harrelson's "Oscar-level performance" as "Date Rape" Dave Brown — "The Most Corrupt Cop You've Ever Seen On Screen" — prompted Millennium Entertainment to pick up U.S. distribution rights and schedule a limited release opening to ensure that the movie would qualify for submission to the Academy for consideration at next year's Oscars.
