When Resident Evil: Retribution hits theaters this September, it will be franchise star Milla Jovovich's fifth movie as amnesic zombie killer Alice, propelling her past Sigourney Weaver's four-movie run as Ripley in the Alien franchise to become the new queen of sci-fi/action movies. While Jovovich is aware that "it's a big deal" for Resident Evil to be a successful "female driven" franchise, she doesn't rest on her laurels, continually striving to satisfy the fans by doing as many of the stunts required of her butt-kicking character as possible. But, even when the car she is in is set on fire or she's hung from the ceiling by cables to give her an extra boost during fight scenes, Jovovich finds that it's hard to think of portraying Alice as "work" because she's "hanging out with people that are really wonderful" and she's "having so much fun."
During a recent roundtable interview session to promote Resident Evil: Retribution, Jovovich helped to pull back the curtain on the "corridor of light" sequence (pictured), revealing that stickers were used for some of the blood spatter on the walls and how the set was rigged to allow her to do her stunts. Jovovich also explained why she and her husband, writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson, don't take message boards very seriously and advised young actresses who are told that they can't be action heroes to not "listen to naysayers."

Sony Pictures' panel at the San Diego Comic-Con was preceded by subsidiary Sony Screen Gems' panel for Resident Evil: Retribution, the fifth installment in the Resident Evil franchise. Writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson was joined by cast members Mika Nakashima, Boris Kodjoe, Oded Fehr, Michelle Rodriguez and, of course, Milla Jovovich. Before bringing out the cast, Anderson came out first and talked about what to expect in Retribution.
We really wanted to blow out the franchise and make it much bigger for fans that have been sticking with us. It's been a long journey for us so far, and we really feel that this franchise is reaching a climax and we really wanted to make this an epic movie. I wanted to try and make this first truly, post-apocalyptic epic film and, to that end, we went all around the world to make this global event. We shot in Red Square in Moscow, we shot the center of Tokyo, we shot in Washington D.C., we destroyed the White House — not for real, but we did build a post-apocalyptic version of it — we shot in Times Square in New York City. So this movie really goes above and beyond any of the Resident Evil movies so far.
We tried to make the movie as big as possible in terms of scale and action, but then also (we made) it as small as possible and as intimate as possible in terms of the Milla character and I think you'll see a side of the character in the movie that you've never seen. You'll see that she has a child, she has a husband, and so Milla gets to play that kind of real, suburban character that you've never seen in the Resident Evil franchise. That gave me the opportunity to really deliver some of the best and the most terrifying scares in the franchise. Because she's not super-powered, she has no training, she has no machine guns; it's just her versus the horror.

As Comic-Con draws near, studios are preparing to showcase their upcoming movies and, in preparation, Sony Screen Gems has been busy promoting the upcoming sequel Resident Evil: Retribution, releasing a couple images and a new trailer last month. In a week writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson, franchise star Milla Jovovich, and other cast members will take the stage in Hall H to reveal new footage from the fifth installment in the Resident Evil franchise, but before next week's big reveal several new images have arrived online.
In Retribution, Alice (Jovovich) is still fighting the evil Umbrella Corporation, in a world still filled with the undead. The sequel brings back plenty of (previously dead) characters from past movies, including Michelle Rodriguez, who appeared in the first Resident Evil as Rain Ocampo. Rodriguez is one of several characters featured in several new Retribution images that feature, Boris Kodjoe as Luther and Kevin Durand as video game character Barry Burton. Unsurprisingly, most of the images center around Jovovich, who, while also taking sole focus in the sequel's latest banner poster, is seen in a few bloody photos alongside Ada Wong (Li Bingbing), another character from the video game franchise who is making her debut in Retribution.

The last time we saw Alice (Milla Jovovich), in 2010's Resident Evil: Afterlife, she and her friends were surrounded by a squadron of assault helicopters sent by the Umbrella Corporation, the company that started the entire zombie outbreak in 2002's Resident Evil. In other words, a fifth installment was planned long before Afterlife brought in $296 million in worldwide box office.
In the new extended-length trailer for Resident Evil: Retribution, we learn that Alice's past holds the key to how the Umbrella Corporation was able to manipulate her and gain control of several cities throughout the world. It also hints that Alice may still be a puppet in the corporation's grand schemes for either world domination or world obliteration — it's pretty hard to tell what Umbrella's end game is at this point.

In January, Sony Screen Gems released a teaser trailer and a teaser poster for the upcoming sequel Resident Evil: Retribution. The poster revealed an apocalyptic setting, with Umbrella Corporation assault helicopters hovering over the water, much like the ending of 2010's Resident Evil: Afterlife.
In a new, international poster hailing from Spain, Sony hasn't done much to the poster outside of adding the back view of what appears to be Milla Jovovich as franchise character Alice. Either that, or its a very convincing stand-in. Considering the similarities of the two posters, Shock Til You Drop was quick to think the poster was merely fan art, but El Septimo Arte stands behind the poster, so we'll have to trust that Screen Gems did little to change the poster for Spanish audiences.

We haven't heard much from Resident Evil: Retribution since its Sony-product-laden teaser trailer was released in January, but writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson and his wife and franchise star Milla Jovovich were on hand at this weekend's WonderCon to discuss the upcoming sequel.
During the movie's panel, the pair unveiled an action sequence from the sequel that shows Jovovich whipping zombies with chains, snippets of which appear in the teaser trailer (IGN has the full description of the scene, which you can read here). Prior to showing the footage, Anderson told ShockTillYouDrop that the action scene took place in the "corridors of Umbrella" and is a sign of how Anderson continues to push the franchise to new territory.

Earlier this month, the official synopsis was released for Resident Evil: Retribution, the the upcoming fifth installment in the Resident Evil franchise. The synopsis didn't offer much about the movie's plot, besides revealing that franchise star Milla Jovovich will be back as Alice and that she will once more try to bring down the evil Umbrella Corporation that started the entire T-Virus mess back in the 2002 original. That would be obvious to anyone that has watched a Resident Evil movie before, so writer-director (and Jovovich's husband) Paul W.S. Anderson explained to ShockTillYouDrop why the plot is being kept so secret.
It's hard for me to explain [the plot] without giving away the twists and the movie. They are inspired by the video game, but I think it should be a very surprising narrative. I'm excited to put the whole thing together.
While Anderson works to "put the whole thing together," Sony Screen Gems has finally released the teaser trailer for Retribution, a day later than promised. While the plot remains a secret, Anderson does find a way to also advertise some of parent company Sony's new technology.

Earlier this week, Sony Screen Gems released the official synopsis for Resident Evil: Retribution, while also temporarily retitling the sequel to the awkward Re5ident Evil: Retribution before coming to their senses. Still, with a synopsis online, fans are wondering why a trailer is still nowhere to be found. Leave the answer to franchise star Milla Jovovich, who alerted fans on her Twitter that a trailer should arrive next week.
So I jst asked [Retribution writer-director and Jovovich's husband] Paul [W.S. Anderson] and he said 4 SURE the teaser 4 RE:Retribution is coming out on the 18th of jan! I'm sure it will b online. When franchises start evolving past a third installment, studios begin to mess with the titles. Some sequels do away with numbers, like "number fours" in Live Free or Die Hard and Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol, or a "number seven" like Saw 3D. Then there are movies like Resident Evil: Retribution, which, even though the franchise has stayed away from numbering their sequels since 2004's Resident Evil: Apocalypse, have begun flirting with the idea of adding a number to the title (at least we hope it's only flirting).
In a move reminiscent to Final Destination 5's temporary retitling to "5nal Destination", Sony Screen Gems has decided on the awkward Re5ident Evil: Retribution for its fifth installment, just as its released the sequel's official synopsis. [UPDATE: Sony has announced that it will not include the "5" in the title. As you were.]

For those of you who have always wanted a 3-D big screen adaptation of The Three Musketeers from the director of Resident Evil: Afterlife, your time has almost come. For those of you a little skeptical, several new preview clips have been released to convince you that Paul W.S. Anderson hasn't destroyed author Alexandre Dumas' classic story.
Anderson has promised that his Three Musketeers is "exactly the story of The Three Musketeers" but told "in a slightly different way", and will still see a young D'Artagnan (Logan Lerman) head to Paris to meet up with the Three Musketeers — Athos(Matthew Macfayden), Porthos (Ray Stevenson), and Aramis (Luke Evans). Together, they will band together to bring down the evil Cardinal Richelieu (Christoph Waltz). Just, in 3-D and featuring giant sailing ships attached to hot-air balloons that have battles in the sky with cannons. You know, "exactly the story of The Three Musketeers."
