Co-written by McQueen and Abi Morgan (Brick Lane), Shame was the Critics Choice at the 2011 Venice Film Festival, and earned Michael Fassbender a Best Actor award for his "brilliant, ferocious performance" as a sex addict living in New York whose carefully constructed facade of normalcy begins to crumble when his estranged sister (Carey Mulligan) shows up on his doorstep one day, stirring memories of a painful past that he has tried hard to forget.
