While co-writer and director Adam McKay made it clear last month that progress on a sequel to 2004's Anchorman was at a stage where he and Will Ferrell will be "holing up writing for the next three months," a new teaser poster is already available online.
Seems that Paramount Pictures is finally getting caught up in the excitement after McKay and Ferrell spent years trying to convince the studio to greenlight the sequel, now titled Anchorman: The Legend Continues. It was only this March when Ferrell appeared as Ron Burgundy on Conan to announce that the sequel was official. Clearly response from fans has been substantial, because Paramount then released a teaser trailer running prior to showings of The Dictator.

Ever since Will Ferrell appeared as Ron Burgundy on Conan last month to announce that Anchorman 2 was officially in the works, fans have wondered what will happen next for San Diego's Action4 News team. Earlier this month, Anchorman co-writer and director Adam McKay revealed sparse details about the sequel, saying that a "custody battle" and "bowling for dollars" might be included in some way in Anchorman 2.
Considering the original movie, McKay's comments could be taken as either fact or a joke. Then again, McKay said he and Ferrell were still about a week away from starting the writing process, so anything he said could have been true for the moment. In an interview with Empire, McKay revealed that he and Ferrell have started writing the script and have about "half a percent" to "2 percent" finished.

Will Ferrell's appearance as Ron Burgundy on Conan last month was a welcome sight for fans of the 2004 comedy Anchorman, especially after Ferrell (as Burgundy) announced that Anchorman 2 is officially in the works. The only question is where the sequel plans to take San Diego's Action4 News team.
Enter Adam McKay. Anchorman's director and co-writer recently spoke to Salon and explained why it took so long for Anchorman 2 to get off the ground.
Well, first off, we went and did some other movies; that was the initial delay. By the time we heard from enough fans and heard enough of the demand for a sequel, it had been a few years. We went to the studio and they kind of weren't into it initially. They said the original one made pretty good money, but for what it made we'll give you this and this, and it was a very low budget. We would have all been working for free to do it.
For the next couple of years we'd check in with them every now and then and go, are you sure you don't want to do it? And finally they had said basically no three times and we had given up and thought all right, let's go do another movie. We were playing with the idea of doing Stepbrothers 2 or another original movie. And just at the last second I said, go check in with them again and see if it's just 100 percent dead. And, crazy luck, a movie had fallen through for them, their view on it had kind of changed and that was it.

Finally, after years of doubt, Ron Burgundy and the rest of San Diego's Action4 News team are assembling for another movie.
A sequel to the 2004 comedy Anchorman has been discussed since at least 2009, when Will Ferrell revealed that he and co-writer and director Adam McKay were "trying to figure out when and how we should do that." Scheduling the entire cast — which includes Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, and Steve Carell — turned out to be an issue, but, as the years passed, nothing transpired.
Last May, Ferrell expressed his frustration over Paramount Pictures' refusal to green light Anchorman 2, but that's now all over as Ron Burgundy himself appeared on Conan last night to announce that a sequel was in the works. He also got in some flute playing and hurled a few insults at Conan O'Brien.

Will Ferrell's latest comedy, Casa de Mi Padre ("House of My Father"), will give fans a chance to see him as they never have: speaking entirely in Spanish.
A parody of Spanish-language telenovelas, Casa de Mi Padre follows Ferrell as rancher Armando Alvarez, who in an attempt to save his family's failing ranch, falls in love with his brother Raul's (Diego Luna) new fiancé, Sonia (Genesis Rodriguez), and becomes a target of a feared drug lord (Gael Garcia Bernal). The movie's latest preview clip, released by Ferrell and Adam McKay's Funny Or Die website, shows none of that, however, as it has Ferrell's Alvarez sitting around a campfire singing the original song "Yo No Se" ("I Don't Know").

Already set to appear in Judd Apatow's This is Forty, the upcoming spin-off of the director's 2008 hit Knocked Up, Variety reports that Lithgow has been cast in the comedy Dog Fight, which stars Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as two rival politicians running for a congressional seat in a small North Carolina district election. What role Lithgow will play exactly is unknown.
John Lithgow is known for a variety of movie roles over his long career; though two of his most memorable have been on the small screen: his Emmy Award–winning role as the quirky alien Dick Solomon in the sitcom Third Rock From the Sun and, more recently, his Emmy and Golden Globe–winning turn as the creepy Trinity Killer in the fourth season of Dexter. His last movie role, that of James Franco's sympathetic father in the Planet of the Apes prequel, Rise of the Planet of the Apes was somewhere in the middle of those two extremes, but his latest projects imply that Lithgow is looking for more comedic roles than duplicitous serial killers.
Jason Sudeikis (Horrible Bosses), Dylan McDermott (American Horror Story) and Katherine LaNasa (Valentine's Day) will co-star in Dog Fight, which will be directed by Jay Roach (Austin Powers, Dinner For Schmucks) from a script by Chris Henchy (The Other Guys) and Shawn Harwell (Eastbound and Down). Ferrell, Galifianakis and Adam McKay (Anchorman) will produce.

Late last month, Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy) was reported to be the "front-runner" for the lead role in the live-action adaptation of Akira, and now he's officially landed the role.
THR reports that Hedlund is in negotiations to star as Kaneda, the heroic leader of the Capsule biker gang in the post-apocalyptic city of New Manhattan (replacing Neo-Tokyo in the classic Japanese manga series by Katsuhiro Otomo). Eventually, Kaneda has to fight his fellow gang member Tetsuo who takes over the rival Clowns biker gang once his telekinetic powers awaken.
While Hedlund is the only cast member who has accepted an offer, other cast members could follow. Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter were offered the roles of The Colonel and Lady Miyako, respectively, at the end of last month, and, reportedly, Keira Knightley has also been approached for a role.

Time to brush up on your Spanish, amigos.
Will Ferrell's upcoming movie, May's Everything Must Go, is a (literally) dramatic departure for the former Saturday Night Live actor. Ferrell's next project looks like an even more unusual departure, as it stars the actor as a Mexican rancher who speaks only in Spanish. "No hablo Americano," says Ferrell early on in the new trailer.
Poking fun at Spanish-language telenovelas, Casa de Mi Padre (or, House of My Father to gringos) seems like something that would show up as a parody trailer on Ferrell's Funny or Die website, which is appropriate since former SNL writer and frequent Funny or Die director Matt Piedmont is at the helm.

What if fairy tale characters Hansel and Gretel grew up to become witch hunters? That's the premise behind Paramount's appropriately-titled Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, which screenwriter D.W. Harper has fashioned into a "horror/action/comedy" for producers Will Ferrell and Adam McKay and Norwegian director Tommy Wirkola, who will be making his U.S. debut after receiving international attention for his 2009 Nazi zombieflick Dead Snow. Wirkola has assembled quite the cast for his movie as well.
Variety reports that Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner have been cast as the candy-loving siblings in the movie, which sees the characters 15 years removed from their initial witch encounter.
