One of the movies that generated buzz at the Toronto International Film Festival is the police drama Rampart, writer-director Oren Moverman's follow-up to The Messenger (2009). Based on a story by James Ellroy (The Black Dahlia, L.A. Confidential), Rampart is set against the backdrop of the Los Angeles Police Department Rampart Scandal of the late-1990s and stars Academy Award-nominee Woody Harrelson as "Date Rape" Dave Brown, one of the last of the force's rogue cops.
Though Brown is described as "a loathsome protagonist," a reviewer for THR said that Harrelson played the role "with an intensity that sears the screen," and ROS called it an "Oscar-level performance." Rampart is still seeking a distributor so it does not have a theatrical release date, but three new preview clips have been released via THR that will give you an idea of what the buzz is all about. watch the preview clips >> Posted 09.12.11 by BrentJS
