Robert Downey Jr. has been called the King of Comic-Con and at Saturday's Iron Man 3 panel, Downey once again proved that title by rocking the audience inside of Hall H.
In true Tony Stark fashion, Downey entered Hall H from the back doors and walked through the audience with music blaring. Once on stage he asked: "How much do I love you? How much do you love me? And why aren't we watching any footage yet?" The lights dropped and the audience saw the first look at Iron Man 3.
The opening scene showed Stark in his "R&D" laboratory, testing his newest version of the Iron Man suite — it assembles onto his body piece by flying piece (as hinted in the recently released concept art.) Cut to a short comic scene between Stark and Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) where Happy complains about being Ironman's "bodyguard." We then get a montage of all the players in Iron Man 3, including Guy Pearce who says, “Some people call me a terrorist. I consider myself a teacher. Lesson number one: there is no such thing as heroes.” Then we see Stark and Pepper attacked at Stark's Malibu home. A helicopter flies in front of it, firing missiles, destroying the home and sending into to the Pacific Ocean. Stark, in a gold and red suit, emerges from the submerged wreckage. We then see the Iron Man 3 title but before fading to black we see Sir Ben Kingsley as The Madarin.

Perhaps this isn't very surprising, but since actor-director Jon Favreau decided not to return to the director's chair for Iron Man 3 there was some question whether he would reprise his role as Happy Hogan, Tony Stark's (Robert Downey Jr.) chauffeur-bodyguard. However, with Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) taking over as director, THR reports Favreau has closed his deal to return as Hogan. Production began on Wednesday in Wilmington, N.C.
Favreau is also returning to produce the movie, something that he made clear more than a week ago, hence the lack of surprise. In a recent interview with THR, Favreau said that he would be "very involved" with Iron Man 3, and was proud to see the franchise "moving forward in a way that re-enforces" the prior Iron Man movies.

Robert Downey Jr., who is just about finished filming his portion of The Avengers, soon will be reprising the Iron Man role in another solo adventure, currently being written by director Shane Black with assistance from Drew Pearce (Marvel's unproduced The Runaways).
Reportedly, Iron Man 3, will see the character fight "real world villains" in a "Tom Clancy-style thriller" and that villain will be one that "fanboys will appreciate," though other details about the script are being kept under wraps. Actor Don Cheadle, who played Lt. James "Rhodey" Rhodes in Iron Man 2, has revealed that shooting will start in February (with a release date planned in 2013), so whatever Black and Pearce are working on will have to finished pretty quickly.

Marvel Studios capped off the 2011 Hero Complex Film Festival (HCFF) with the world premiere of the new trailer for its latest superhero adaptation, Captain America: The First Avenger, followed by screenings of Iron Man and Iron Man 2. Between the screenings, the fan-friendly director of the movies, Jon Favreau, took the stage for a quick Q&A, joined by surprise guest Robert Downey, Jr., who flew in from the set of writer-director Joss Whedon's The Avengers in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Downey, Jr.'s appearance was not only totally unexpected, but also rather remarkable in that it might be the last time that he and Favreau take the stage together to talk about Iron Man considering Favreau has left the franchise behind to direct Magic Kingdom for Disney. In addition to talking about the first two movies and joking about Favreau's negotiations to appear in Iron Man 3 as Happy Hogan, Downey, Jr. and Favreau also talked about the difficulties in store for Shane Black as the director of the first post-Avengers Marvel movie. Downey, Jr. also gave a ringing endorsement of Whedon and said that The Avengers is "gonna be great."

While the fanboy community may still be dizzy from director Jon Favreau's decision to direct Disney's Magic Kingdom instead of Iron Man 3, the fact is, Marvel is going to have to find a replacement to start prepping the sequel for its 2013 release date. That replacement could be Shane Black, best known for writing the screenplays for Lethal Weapon and The Last Boy Scout.

Jon Favreau recently used his Twitter account to reveal the first image from his upcoming comic book adaptation Cowboys and Aliens — currently in pre-production — but the hazy, stark (ahem) image left a little to be desired in the way of details. Collider caught up with Favreau, who revealed the mystery person depicted in the photo and a little bit more about what kind role Harrison Ford plays in the movie.

The red carpet premiere of Paramount and Marvel Studios' highly-anticipated sequel to Iron Man was held in Los Angeles on Monday and the stars turned out looking their best.
