After going to White Castle and escaping from Guantanamo Bay, Harold (John Cho) and Kumar (Kal Penn) have a much simpler task in the third installment: finding a Christmas tree for Harold's father-in-law after the first one is burned down.
An August trailer for A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas revealed the basic concept behind the 3-D sequel, which includes the return of Neil Patrick Harris playing a fictionalized version of himself, but for anyone that thought Harold and Kumar might be constrained by a holiday movie, a new, raunchy red band trailer has arrived to show that the movie is no Miracle on 34th Street. Filled with nudity, gore, drugs, and a Neil Patrick Harris behaving so badly that he is kicked out of Heaven, we should probably warn you that the trailer is extremely NSFW or for the easily offended.

It's been three years since Harold (John Cho) and Kumar (Kal Penn) had to escape from Guantanamo Bay, but the two friends are back for a third installment this November with A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas.
To promote the sequel, New Line Cinema has released several new character posters for the sequel including ones for Harold and Kumar, as well as a poster for NPH, a.k.a. Neil Patrick Harris and one that combines all three actors.
Also promoting the upcoming movie is MTV, who have offered a new still photo from the sequel as well as an interview with Cho and Penn that reveals that the movie may include, according to Cho, "enhanced nudity," perhaps because A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas will be presented in 3-D.
Avatar was in 3-D. I'm not in competition with Avatar. I'm not in competition with James Cameron. He does his thing. We do our thing. He makes cartoons. I understand he had a good year. I'm just saying, the technology isn't his.

It seems like every year that the holiday season begins earlier and earlier. Here it is August and we have our first holiday movie trailer. Of course, it's the trailer for A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas, which isn't going to take anything about the holidays too seriously, even opening in November well before Christmas.

First, there was White Castle. Then there was Guantanamo Bay. Now Harold and Kumar are going a third location, which so far has yet to be revealed. John Cho gave a few details about the sequel to Collider.
It's called A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas. The script has been turned in — I haven't read it — but I from what I know I think we catch up a little bit later in Harold and Kumar's lives. It takes place over the holiday season and I think this could a be a legit holiday movie, which is a shocker, but...I think their intent is to honor the holiday movie style, that genre.
Cho says the are still looking for a director and he isn't sure how the scheduling will work for Kal Penn, who has accepted a position as an associate director in the White House Office of Public Liason. Still, Cho told Movieweb that they are planning to shoot the movie this summer.
That's for the summer. We're supposed to start shooting it this summer, that's the plan and if I'm not mistaken I think they want to release it this Christmas.
The sequel should see the return of Neil Patrick Harris, which pleases Cho, who couldn't stop complimenting the actor.
He really did us a favor and did that movie. I couldn't be happier for him. If we are at all connected to all the good stuff that's happening with him then I couldn't be more pleased. He deserves it so much. Doesn't he? He's just amazing. He's one of the last true entertainers. The rest of us are just actors I guess? This guy does everything. Did you know he is a magician as well? He's a magician, singer, dancer and an actor. I mean this guy can really do everything.
As for where Harold and Kumar will be going in the third movie, Cho is uncertain. "I don't know," he said. "[but] I guarantee at least a couple good times."

Dude. Wanna make another movie? Our partners at Variety have alerted us to the fact that Harold & Kumar are coming back for thirds. The plot is "being kept under wraps," but we think it will have something to do with the overwhelming sense of despair that seems to afflict so many of us in this overmediated, post-millenial era. Either that or bong jokes. Still, aren't good-natured low-budget stoner comedies supposed to be a gateway drug for harder stuff? By our reckoning, the hydroponic duo should have graduated to hilarious heroin-addiction adventures at this point.

In the tradition of Cheech and Chong's Up in Smoke and Half Baked, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle found a loyal audience of stoners back in 2004. The flick didn't really catch on until DVD (guess it's hard to get stoners out to the theater) but since has become a very quotable classic of the genre.
Now the duo of Kal Penn and John Cho (and of course Neil Patrick Harris as Neil Patrick Harris) return. This time, the stakes have been upped. Instead of just searching for some tasty White Castle burgers, the duo now have to escape from Guantanamo Bay.
