When a senator is murdered by someone whose technique bears the trademark of a supposedly deceased Soviet assassin named "Cassius," Paul Shepherdson (Richard Gere), the CIA operative who claims to have shot and killed Cassius years ago, is called out of retirement and paired up with a rookie FBI agent (Topher Grace) to solve the crime. As the two get closer and closer to the truth, they discover that Cassius may not be the person they thought him to be. That's the premise of The Double, the new thriller from screenwriters Derek Haas and Michael Brandt — the duo behind 2 Fast 2 Furious, Wanted and 3:10 to Yuma — and it would be a pretty good one, too, promising lots of intrigue, if the trailer that was just released didn't give away the plot twist.
