Despite Lionsgate's best efforts to keep the plot to its upcoming
movie adaptation of the classic sword-and-sorcery character created by Robert E. Howard, Conan: The Barbarian, under wraps, others connected to the production seemed determine to spoil the surprise. We already know a great deal about the plot because someone (presumably from casting) leaked the full cast list of the movie, which contained detailed descriptions of all of the major characters. And the general look and feel of the movie was revealed by various cast or crew members who leaked photos of the the set and of title star Jason Momoa in costume. Now, the company producing the official comic book adaptation of the movie, Dark Horse Comics, has leaked even more details about the plot in its solicitation for the comic book.
After witnessing his wife burned at the stake, warlord Khalar Zym [played in the movie by Stephen Lang from Avatar] sets out on a quest to find the mythical Mask of Acheron, an ancient artifact that will bring his beloved back to life. In his search across the lands, Zym destroys a village in northern Cimmeria, where a boy [Leo Howard as young Conan] born of battle survives and is cast out into the world, alone.
Years later, Zym crosses paths again with the boy who survived—Conan. He must now contend with this barbarian nuisance who is now set on vengeance for the slaughter of his village. Zym and his daughter, Marique [Rose McGowan], eventually clash with Conan in an epic final battle, the outcome of which will decide the fate of the world.
Conan: The Barbarian was written by Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly, with re-writes by Sean Hood, and directed by Marcus Nispel. Ron Perlman, Bob Sapp and Rachel Nichols also star.
