Just when it seemed like Paramount's World War Z might be in financial trouble, the adaptation of Max Brooks' best-selling novel hired director of photography Robert Richardson (Shutter Island, Inglourious Basterds) and seemed poised for a June production start. Now, Brad Pitt has some company in the cast.
THR reports that Mireille Enos, star of AMC's critically acclaimed drama The Killing, has joined the cast of World War Z and will play the wife of Pitt, a U.N. worker, and the mother to two girls.
World War Z was adapted by Matthew Michael Carnahan (The Kingdom) and J. Michael Straczynski (Changeling), while Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace) is directing the movie, which starts shooting in London this June.
Universal Pictures' Safe House, an action-thriller currently shooting in South Africa with Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington, is also adding cast members. The movie follows Reynolds as a CIA agent who is the sole survivor of an attack on a safe house and must escort a criminal (Washington) to safety.
Deadline reports that Vera Farmiga (Source Code, Up in the Air) has joined the production as a CIA operative who supervises Reynolds. Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman, who also stars in AMC's The Killing and was the lead in Safe House director Daniel Espinosa's breakout crime drama Snabba Cash, has also joined the movie as a man who operates a safe house where Reynolds and Washington show up.
Safe House was written by David Guggenheim, a former US Weekly editor, with Terry George (Hotel Rwanda) performing a rewrite. Safe House co-stars Brendan Gleeson, Sam Shepard, Ruben Blades, and Tim McGraw.
