Gary Busey and More Cast in Piranha 3DD

The ending of Piranha 3D perfectly set up a sequel, but instead of continuing the action at Lake Victoria with the original cast, Piranha 3DD is heading for a water park with a whole new cast, director (Feast's John Gulager) and screenwriters (Feast's Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton with producer Joel Soisson, also from Feast, doing a rewrite). Principal photography began earlier this week in Wilmington, North Carolina, and Dimension sent out a press release to announce the start of production that gave a brief description of the sequel.
There’s something in the water . . . again. And this time no one is safe from the flesh eating fish as they sink their razor sharp teeth into the visitors of the best summer attraction, The Big Wet Water Park.
The Piranha 3DD cast will include Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th, The Crazies), Matt Bush (Adventureland), Chris Zylka (The Amazing Spider-Man), David Koechner (Anchorman), Meagan Tandy (Unstoppable), Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Hector Jimenez, Adrian Martinez, and Clu Gulager (Feast). The Playlist reports that the latest cast addition is Gary Busey in an unspecified role.
What characters the cast will play is unknown, though Moviehole did find descriptions for the main characters in the sequel, so we'll make our best guess. According to the report, Piranha 3DD will center around marine biology student Maddy (Panabaker, most likely), who returns to her hometown to help her father (Koechner, perhaps?) run the local water park. Of course, it's Maddy who discovers that prehistoric piranha have entered the park and, we're guessing, can now breathe in chlorinated water. Also working at the park is computer-savvy Barry (Bush, probably), who has a crush on Maddy, but will have competition from her ex-boyfriend Kyle (Zylka?), a local police officer. Other piranha bait includes sisters Ashley and Shelby (Tandy could play one of the sisters) and their respective love interests Travis and Andy who, let's face it, won't last long once the piranha start doing their thing.
Who Busey will play is very much unknown, though it's possible he will be in a cameo much like Richard Dreyfuss in the first Piranha, though he could play a smaller role a la Christopher Lloyd. Either way, we're sure that Busey's character will be... eccentric.
As for the original cast, it looks like Elisabeth Shue, Adam Scott and company will not be back, with Moviehole reporting that the events of the first movie will appear on a television news show playing in the background at some point. Ving Rhames, however, has indicated that he might return, though that has yet to be confirmed.
