Several new posters were recently released to promote a trio of upcoming sequels. Disney is once again using mermaids to hype the fourth movie in its popular Pirates franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, releasing two new posters that feature the mermaid Syrena (played by Astrid Berges-Frisbey). Earlier this month, Disney released a poster that featured three mermaids and a TV spot that revealed that mermaids are somehow essential to Blackbeard's (Ian McShane) plans for the Fountain of Youth, a quest the notorious pirate embarks on with the (forced) aid of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp). It's still unclear why Blackbeard needs mermaids, but it's a good bet that the reason is pretty sinister.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was written by Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot, the writers of the previous three Pirates movies, and directed by Rob Marshall (Nine). Penelope Cruz, Kevin R. McNally, and Academy Award–winner Geoffrey Rush also star. The adventure begins opens May 20th.
The core members [sorry, Doug (Justin Bartha), but you know it's true] of the Wolf Pack — Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), and Alan (Zach Galifianakis) — also got a new international poster for The Hangover Part II, which includes the crew's newest addition, biker monkey! Co-written (with Craig Mazin and Scot Armstrong) and directed by Todd Phillips, the sequel to The Hangover takes the Wolf Pack out of Las Vegas and plops them down in the chaotic city of Bangkok, where they have reunited for Stu's wedding. Missing memories and a missing pack member — Stu's future brother-in-law, Teddy (Mason Lee) — are par for the course whenever these guys get together, as is an appearance by Mike Tyson (as himself) and Mr. Chow (Ken Jeong). Jamie Chung (Sucker Punch) joins the hungover hijinks as Stu's fiancée. The Hangover Part II opens Memorial Day.
But summer is not just about action movies and raunchy R-rated comedies, so here's a little something for the kids (or the kid in all of us). Three new posters for Kung Fu Panda 2 have also been released online, a new domestic poster and two striking (get it?) international posters featuring Po (voiced by Jack Black) in action. In DreamWorks Animation's "freakin' awesome" sequel to Kung Fu Panda, Po must once again team up with the Furious Five —Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Monkey (Jackie Chan), Crane (David Cross), Mantis (Seth Rogen), and Viper (Lucy Liu)—to save China and all of the world from a terrifying new enemy with the power to end kung fu forever.Kung Fu Panda 2
