Guy Pearce Joins Prometheus; Anthony Mackie Being Recruited for World War Z or Gangster Squad
05.03.11 by Ryan
Director Ridley Scott has assembled an excellent ensemble for his upcoming sci-fi movie Prometheus that includes Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron and Idris Elba. Could that cast also include Guy Pearce?
No official confirmation has Pearce joining the cast of Prometheus, though CHUD received word that Pearce had joined the cast via an email from an anonymous reader. While the CHUD report seems dubious, the site claims that two other emails have arrived that support Pearce's casting.
The Playlist has also confirmed through Pearce's reps that the actor has indeed been cast in the movie in an unspecified role.
Prometheus began its development as a prequel to Scott's 1979 classic Alien but after a new draft from screenwriter Damon Lindelof arrived, Scott claimed the script created "a new, grand mythology and universe" that would use "strands of Alien DNA." Prometheus is still rumored to feature Scott's chest-bursting, acid-bleeding aliens, but no confirmation on that has been revealed either. We'll find out for sure when Prometheus opens on June 8, 2012.
Meanwhile, Anthony Mackie could go from hunting vampires to killing zombies. Or mobsters.
According to Variety (via Empire), Mackie could land in World War Z, director Marc Forster's adaptation of Max Brooks' best-selling novel. The Hurt Locker actor, currently shooting director Timur Bekmambetov's adaptation of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, is reportedly circling an undisclosed role in the movie, which chronicles the events of a devastating war against the undead. Brad Pitt is leading the cast in the role of a U.N. worker, and Mireille Enos was recently cast as Pitt's wife.
Mackie could also be hunting down mobsters as well. Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer is reportedly seeking the actor for a role in Gangster Squad, which follows the real-life adventures of a secret squad of police officers who went after gangsters in the 1940s. Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, and Josh Brolin are set to star.
World War Z is set to start production in June, while Gangster Squad will start shooting in the fall. Mackie could end up in both movies, but, apparently, nothing is official yet.
