Bradley Cooper Could Play the Devil in Paradise Lost Adaptation

Actor Bradley Cooper has found great success playing characters with a devilish personality in movies like The A-Team and The Hangover, but now Cooper has the opportunity to play the devil, himself, in a new movie based on 17th-century English poet John Milton's epic poem "Paradise Lost" about the war between Heaven and Hell that led to the Fall of Man. According to Variety, Cooper is "in early talks" with Legendary Pictures to play Lucifer and "is eager to take the part," though no official offer has been made at this time. Alex Proyas (Knowing, I, Robot) is attached to direct.
Paradise Lost has been in development at Vincent Newman Entertainment for years. Stuart Hazeldine (Knowing) developed the primary draft of the screenplay based on a story originally written by Byron Willinger and Philip de Blasi. The screenplay has since received some polishing from Lawrence Kasdan (Dreamcatcher) and, most recently, Ryan Condal. Variety reports that the movie will be an "action vehicle," possibly in 3-D, and will "include aerial warfare," presumably similar to the kind glimpsed in the first trailer for Immortals. Warner Bros. is the likely distributor.
