First Details of The Expendables 2 Emerge

Lionsgate set a August 17, 2012, release date for The Expendables 2 last month, despite the sequel lacking a director, and with Sylvester Stallone still working on a script with screenwriters Ken Kaufman (Space Cowboys) and David Agosto. Progress has been made, however, as a early teaser poster was discovered at the Canned Film Festival by First Showing.
The report offered no details on the sequel, however, production company Nu Image already has a plot synopsis (via ComingSoon) for Expendables 2. [UPDATE: Stallone has contacted fansite StalloneZone to say that the following synopsis is not correct and that the "real storyline will be forthcoming" despite this coming from the production company's website.]
The Expendables are back and this time it's personal! After Tool (Mickey Rourke), the heart and soul of the Expendables, is brutally murdered on a mission, his comrades swear to avenge him. They're not the only ones who want blood. Tool’s beautiful young and wild daughter Fiona embarks on her own revenge mission, complicating matters when she is captured and ransomed by a ruthless dictator plotting to destroy a resistance movement. Now Barney and the Expendables must risk everything to save her and humanity.
That sounds like a likely scenario for the sequel, as it also sounds like a recap of the original movie with the exception of Rourke's character kicking the bucket. As for who will be the "ruthless dictator" of the movie, it could be Jean-Claude Van Damme.
Rumors that the Kickboxer actor would appear in the sequel was started by Van Damme's Double Impact director Sheldon Lettich in January, and Lettich recently fanned the flames of those rumors on the forums of fansite Van Damme Fans.
He said he's going to be in "The Expendables 2," playing a villain.
That doesn't mean that Van Damme will play the dictator, of course. The Belgian actor turned down a role in the first Expendables (his part went to Dolph Lundgren instead) because he felt the role wasn't big enough. However, the role of a dictator seems sizable enough.
Another argument for putting Van Damme in the dictator role is Bruce Willis. Stallone has already admitted that he wants Willis back for Expendables 2 as a "super villain," but somehow taking Willis' character of Church and turning him into a "ruthless dictator" seems like a stretch.
Then again, this is The Expendables we're talking about.
