Move Over Cowboys and Aliens, Here Comes Dinosaurs Versus Aliens

In a summer movie season crowded with superhero movies, sequels, and prequels, DreamWorks' Cowboys and Aliens stands out because it has a novel, genre-bending premise — alien conquerors try to take over the Earth by invading the American West during the 1870s — that promises to be like nothing we've ever seen before. Which, of course, makes it an excellent movie to copy.
If imitation truly is the sincerest form of flattery, then consider Cowboys and Aliens thoroughly flattered by Barry Sonnenfeld's new movie in development, which pits aliens against dinosaurs instead of cowboys. Titled Dominion: Dinosaurs Versus Aliens, the movie will be written by acclaimed comic book writer Grant Morrison (All-Star Superman, Batman & Robin, The Invisibles), who will also write a graphic novel adaptation for Liquid Comics that will precede the movie.
Sonnenfeld, who is no stranger to sci-fi as the director of all three of the Men in Black movies, said that combining his childhood fascination with dinosaurs with his adult success with aliens is a "dream come true." He also said that he has been "trying to do a project" with Liquid Comics "ever since" he wrote a forward to one of the publisher's graphic novels.
So what could a movie about dinosaurs fighting aliens possibly be about? Here's how Deadline described the graphic novel:
The graphic novel will chronicle a secret prehistoric world war battle. When an alien invasion attacks Earth in the age of the dinosaurs, the planet's only hope is the giants that roam the planet with, it turns out, a lot more intelligence than previously realized.
Dominion: Dinosaurs Versus Aliens will be published later this year in both print and digital formats. Morrison is joined by Liquid's Mukesh Singh, who will provide the artwork.
