Andrew Niccol to Direct The Host

The Host has a director. For the record, we're not talking about Universal's American remake of Korean director Bong Joon-ho's 2006 monster movie The Host, but an adaptation of Twilight author Stephenie Meyer's 2008 sci-fi novel.
Deadline reports Andrew Niccol (Gattaca) will direct the movie. Niccol is a natural choice for the movie, since he already wrote the screenplay with Meyers and was initially picked as the movie's director when the project was announced in 2009. Niccol left to direct the upcoming thriller Now, but was reportedly courted to return to the director's chair after Saoirse Ronan was cast in the lead role.
"Having Andrew at the helm for us is incredibly invigorating as he truly shares Stephenie’s vision on this film," said Kimberly Fox, President of International Sales at Inferno Entertainment, the production company currently shopping the movie at the Cannes Film Festival. "We literally began sales this week and the response from the international community, and from domestic buyers, has been beyond our highest expectations. We expect to have every territory in the world sold out very shortly, and then it’s about getting to the exciting part of making the movie."
The Host follows an Earth where humans have been inhabited by aliens called Souls. Ronan plays a human that is unwilling to release her mind to the alien that occupies her, called the Wanderer. Ronan will play both the alien and the human, er... Melanie.
