Donald Sutherland Cast as President Snow in The Hunger Games; Ross and Collins Pen New Script

In the last big casting news for The Hunger Games, Lionsgate announced today Donald Sutherland will play villainous President Snow in the movie adaptation of Suzanne Collins' books.
President Snow was the final major character to be cast. Sutherland joins a cast that includes Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen), Woody Harrelson (Haymith Abernathy), Lenny Kravitz (Cinna) Stanley Tucci (Caesar Flickerman), Wes Bentley (Seneca Crane), Elizabeth Banks (Effie Trinket), Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark), Liam Hemsworth (Gale Hawthorne), Willow Shield (Primrose), and Paula Malcomson (mother to Katniss and Primrose).
And if that wasn't enough Hunger Games news, over the weekend came reports that director Gary Ross threw out the script that was written by Billy Ray (State of Play and Volcano). Lionsgate tweeted:
The current draft of The Hunger Games script was not written by Billy Ray. It is a collaboration between Gary Ross and Suzanne Collins
The Wrap asked Ray if he had any idea why his script was replaced (he didn't). But apparently the news that his draft wasn't going to be used couldn't come to him as a complete surprise. In April, Ross informed Ray that he would be retooling the script.
I told Billy when I began — and he’s a director as well and a very good one — that I would have to put this into my own voice. And I wanted to get back as close as I could to the essence of the book and the emotional arc."
What were the changes between the two scripts? Do fans feel better knowing that Collins had a hand in penning the script? Could there not be anyone better than Sutherland to play Snow?
