Matthew Modine's Role in The Dark Knight Rises Revealed?
05.31.11 by Ryan
Earlier this month, actor Matthew Modine was cast in director Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated Batman sequel, The Dark Knight Rises. At the time, nothing about Modine's role was known outside of the character's name, which is reportedly "Nixon." According to a new report, that name may be intentionally political, as new details on the role have been revealed.
ShowBiz 411 reports that, according a source, Modine's Nixon will be "a politician and a key villain" in the movie. Modine will shoot his scenes in the London, England, part of the shoot, before the production moves on to Glasgow, Scotland, and then to the U.S. for more shooting in Pittsburgh, New York, and Los Angeles.
Whether the report about Modine's character is true remains to be seen. Nolan has been infamously secretive about his directorial projects and, so far, little is known about The Dark Knight Rises despite the efforts of spy photographers who have captured shots from the set.
Should the information about Modine's character be true, IGN speculates that "Nixon" could be Mayor Armand Krol and Wilson Klass, among others. The IGN report proposes that Modine could play one of Gotham's council members as well.
Nestor Carbonell is already confirmed to reprise his role of Mayor Garcia in The Dark Knight Rises so, should Modine play another Gotham Mayor, that could mean that Carbonell's term could be in jeopardy.
Of course, the entire political angle to Modine's character could be completely false, with Modine playing a Gotham City hot dog vendor for all we know. We'll keep checking for confirmation, or wait until The Dark Knight Rises opens on July 20, 2012.
