Rumor Mill: Naomie Harris to Join James Bond 23 as New Bond Girl?

With director Sam Mendes now able to continue work on his upcoming James Bond 23 (working title), the only confirmed cast members so far are Daniel Craig as 007 and Dame Judi Dench as M. This leaves fans wondering who will be cast as the next Bond villain, and the next Bond girl.
Javier Bardem was offered the role of James Bond's nemesis at the end of January, but, days later, Bardem revealed that he hadn't accepted the role yet. Speculation then turned to Ralph Fiennes, who reportedly was in talks to play a different "darkly complex" villain. Months later, neither actor has been publicly confirmed.
That leaves the next Bond girl, which could be Naomie Harris, the British actress known for her roles in 28 Days Later and the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy.
The Harris rumor was first reported by British tabloid News of the World, who say that Harris will play Craig's "sexy sidekick" in the upcoming movie. On first glance, any report from a tabloid newspaper (regardless of country) wouldn't be taken seriously whatsoever, but other outlets have stepped up to confirm the rumor.
Indiewire reports that Harris has been offered a role, but couldn't confirm whether Harris accepted the part or if it was indeed a "Bond girl" type role. EW confirmed that Harris is "being considered to star as a Bond girl", but again, Harris' participation isn't official.
Harris joins other rumored Bond girls Freida Pinto and Olivia Wilde, who were also first reported by a British tabloid, but both actresses denied the rumors last year. It looks like Harris could actually end up in the movie, though nothing is certain yet.
Bond 23 starts production in September and will open in the U.S. on November 9, 2012, but will open two weeks earlier in the U.K. and Ireland on October 26, 2012.
