According to Variety, Al Pacino is in talks to star in Imagine, the upcoming project from screenwriter Dan Fogelman (Tangled, Cars 2).
In an announcement Monday, Warner Bros. confirmed they approached Pacino and are now in negotiations. If he signs, Pacino will play the part of an aging rock musician who receives a letter from his idol, John Lennon, 40 years after it was written. This sudden revelation prompts him to change his life and track down his son, who he's never met.
The 71-year-old legendary actor hasn't been in a theatrical release since 2008's Righteous Kill. In 2010, he stared in the HBO movie You Don't Know Jack, a biopic about the recently deceased "suicide doctor", Jack Kevorkian. The performance earned Pacino a Golden Globe, an Emmy, and a SAG Award.
In addition, Pacino has signed on to play mobster Neil Dellacroce in the biopic Gotti: Three Generations, the title role in the upcoming adaptation of King Lear, and Herod in Mary Mother of Christ.
Imagine has been in the works since last year, and Steve Carell was to star in the role of the son. But scheduling conflicts forced him to pull out, although he still remains a producer on the project.
