The summer movie season is in full swing, with pirates, gods, mutants and vampire hunters already engaged in do-or-die battles for box office dollars, yet Lionsgate has been sparing in its promotional output for director Marcus Nispel's upcoming sword-and-sorcery spectacle, Conan: The Barbarian. Only a handful of still images, a sound-and-motion poster and an admittedly epic theatrical trailer have been released thus far, but things seem to be heating up. Lionsgate has confirmed that Conan: The Barbarian will have a big presence at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con, even giving away a trip to the Mecca of popular culture on the official Facebook page for the movie, and now the studio has released a series of new character posters and a new sound-and-motion poster.
The stylized character posters feature Jason Momoa as Robert E. Howard's Cimmerian barbarian in full sword-swinging, serpent-hacking action, Stephen Lang as the ruthless warlord Khalar Zym, Rose McGowan as Zym's deadly witch daughter, Marique, Rachel Nichols as Tamara, a beautiful warrior princess whose destiny is intertwined with Conan's, and Ron Perlman as Conan's father, Corin — revealing the first look at Perlman's character — whose death at the hands of Zym's minions propels Conan on a lifelong quest for vengeance. You can check out the cool battlefield scene sound-and-motion poster by following the link below, but be sure to turn off your speakers if you're at work.

Conan the Barbarian was written by Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly, with re-writes by Sean Hood. Bob Sapp and Leo Howard also star.
