Thanks to increasingly ubiquitious hand-held cameras, many of the secrets that you used to have to actually go to see a movie to discover are pretty much guaranteed to pop up online almost immediately after a movie debuts. So far, the spoiler-filled end-credits scenes of two of this summer's big comic book movies — Thor and X-Men: First Class — were leaked online by naughty movie patrons, now a third comic book movie has also also fallen victim.
Green Lantern, which opened nationwide on Friday to middling numbers, includes a mid-final credits scene that reveals a MAJOR plot point about who or what the villain will be in Green Lantern 2 (assuming the numbers improve and there is a sequel) and that scene has already made its way to YouTube. If you are a comic book aficionado and/or you have been following Green Lantern movie news closely, this scene really won't come as much of a surprise to you, but for all others...proceed at your own risk!
Green Lantern was written by Michael Green, Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Goldenberg, and directed by Martin Campbell. The movie is based on the superhero created by John Broome and Gil Kane that first appeared in Showcase #22 (October 1959). The cast includes Ryan Reynolds as the title hero, Blake Lively as Carol Ferris, Peter Sarsgaard as the villainous Hector Hammond, Angela Bassett as Amanda Waller, Mark Strong as Lantern Sinestro and Academy Award–winner Tim Robbins as Senator Hammond, with Academy Award–nominee Michael Clarke Duncan and Academy Award–winner Geoffrey Rush providing the voices of alien Lanterns Kilowog and Tomar-Re, respectively.
