An informative — and really awesome! — new featurette for Marvel Studios' latest comic book adaptation, Captain America: The First Avenger, has been released online, courtesy of Norton. The new featurette, titled "Behind the Shield," details the history of Captain America's (played by Chris Evans in the movie) iconic, indestructible circular shield, from its origins in the Marvel Comic books on which the movie is based, to its brief "cameo" in Iron Man, right up to its design and construction for The First Avenger, with commentary from Marvel Comics creators, as well as those involved with bringing Cap to the big screen. On top of all of that, the featurette also includes some never-before-seen footage from the set, including snippets of scenes being shot involving Cap in full costume fighting the Nazi agents of HYDRA!
Captain America: The First Avenger was written by Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus and directed by Joe Johnston. The movie is based on the classic Marvel Comics character created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby that first appeared in Captain America Comics #1 in March 1941 (then Timely Comics). The cast includes Sebastian Stan as James "Bucky" Barnes, Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan, Toby Jones as Arnim Zola, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark and Stanley Tucci as Dr. Abraham Erskine.
