Christina Hendricks as Wonder Woman?

Fanboy alert! Nearly a year ago, we reported on a potential big-screen version of Wonder Woman. And now, it seems Mad Men star Christina Hendricks could be cast in the title role, should the project get off the ground. The news came from the Los Angeles Film Festival during the U.S. premiere of the heist flick Drive, which stars Hendricks alongside Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan.
Nicolas Winding Refn, who recently won at Cannes for his direction of the movie, spoke about the potential Wonder Woman project and reportedly pointed to Hendricks when saying, "If I ever get to do it, she's going to be it." In his earlier interview with Movieline, Refn spoke about his interest in the project and his plans for creating an intriguing nemesis:
She doesn't have a Joker or those classic Batman kinds of guys. But she does have her whole world that she comes from, which is fascinating. The whole idea of a woman who is basically more powerful than any man — and who will always be that, and comes from a society of women who are more powerful than men — is an interesting theme that I think can be very contemporary... The trick with Wonder Woman is to find that antagonist who worked so well in the Batman concept — his villains are equally if not more exciting than Batman himself. Here, it's basically coming up with who would be a great counterpart to Wonder Woman. Is it her mother who’s the real enemy? Something that's biblical in a sense.
There's been no official announcement that the project is in fact a reality. But with NBC's recent attempt at a Wonder Woman TV series falling by the wayside, maybe there's a chance it will happen. We'll let you know if anything changes.
