Naomie Harris Confirms Possible James Bond 23 Role
Posted 06.22.11 by Ryan
Earlier this month, British actress Naomie Harris (28 Days Later, Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy) was rumored to be up for a role in the upcoming next installment, tentatively called James Bond 23. Reportedly, Harris' role could be either that of a "sexy sidekick" to James Bond (played again by Daniel Craig) or a "Bond girl," but remained unconfirmed.
While some outlets said that Harris was offered the role, Harris recently revealed to the BBC (via Shadow and Act) that she has only auditioned for the movie, but has no idea what role she might be cast in, though apparently it could be of the "intelligent Bond Girl" variety (perhaps like Denise Richards' nuclear physicist character, Dr. Christmas Jones, in 1999's The World is Not Enough only, hopefully, not woefully miscast).

All I can say is I've met the Bond team, I've met [director] Sam Mendes, they're all wonderful. I've auditioned for Bond. My audition was really great actually because it's so top secret, the whole Bond thing. I hadn't realized how top secret it was. I've auditioned for a lot of things before but never for something where you can't see the script, it's that secret... I auditioned with a scene from Quantum of Solace. You don’t know what role you’re going up for either, so everybody gets given a scene from a previous Bond movie.. I don’t know whether it's true or not that I'm going to be an intelligent Bond girl. I don't know at all but I'd like it!
Should Harris land the role, she would be the third cast member behind Craig and the returning Judi Dench as M. The next casting decision fans will look forward to is the Bond villain, which was first offered to Javier Bardem. However, the actor later revealed that he was interested but hadn't accepted the role yet. Ralph Fiennes was reportedly in talks to play a different "darkly complex" villain but, so far, neither actor has been publicly confirmed.
James Bond 23 will reportedly start production in September, so casting confirmations ought to arrive in the next few months. The movie will open November 9, 2012.
