When Julia Ormond was added to the cast of director Zack Snyder's Man of Steel last week, the Legends of the Fall actress was reportedly the last piece of the casting puzzle, until Christopher Meloni's casting was announced.
Deadline reports Meloni is in negotiations for a "major role" in the latest attempt to reboot the Superman franchise, though what Meloni's role is remained unspecified. Online speculation had Meloni cast as Superman's arch–nemesis Lex Luthor, but when Meloni spoke to Vulture, the former Law & Order: SVU actor revealed he will be playing a general in the movie and will start shooting at the end of August in Chicago, before shooting in Vancouver and Edwards Air Force base as well.
When pressed for more details, Meloni said,
"I can't tell you, or I'd have to kill you."
Meloni joins a cast that has Henry Cavill in the title role, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Jonathan and Martha Kent, respectively, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Russell Crowe and Ormond as Superman's biological parents Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van, respectively. The movie's villains will be played by Michael Shannon as Zod, and Antje Traue as Faora.
Man of Steel was written by David Goyer (The Dark Knight) from a story he conceived with producer Christopher Nolan that is being kept secret but will reportedly follow a younger Superman trying to figure out his powers and his place in the world.
