Thor 2 to Open Summer 2013; Chris Hemsworth Adds New Role

If there's one thing that this summer has revealed so far about comic book movies is that not every superhero is treated equally. While Marvel Studio's Thor placed first at the domestic box office for two weeks in a row, eventually earning $437 million in worldwide box office, Green Lantern wasn't as fortunate, earning well below its $200 million budget after two weeks of release.
While DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. aren't entirely sure about moving forward with Green Lantern 2, Marvel is committing to Thor 2, with Marvel president Kevin Feige revealing at the Thor press junket that screenwriter Don Payne was "working on story ideas for a Part Two," (after previously admitting that a Thor sequel was in the works) and have found a place for it on its upcoming slate.
Box Office Mojo reports that Thor 2 will open on July 26, 2013, just two months after Iron Man 3 opens on May 3, 2013. Deadline reports that Thor director Kenneth Branagh will not return for the sequel and that Branagh's exit was "mutual and amicable." Branagh might stay on as a producer.
Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role as the Norse god of thunder, adding yet another movie to his rapidly filling schedule. Already playing Thor again for the upcoming The Avengers, Hemsworth will then move on to Universal Pictures' Snow White and the Huntsman. According to THR, Hemsworth has added another role in Columbia's espionage thriller Shadow Runner.
The movie, written and conceived by Snow White and the Huntsman screenwriter Hossein Amini, will see Hemsworth play an elite commando but other plot details are being kept under wraps. Shadow Runner is currently in the early stages of development, and has no director attached.
