Johnny Depp "Close" to Returning for Pirates 5

In what is a surprise for no one, Johnny Depp is reportedly negotiating to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the fifth Pirates movie.
Before the fourth Pirates movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, reached theaters in May, Depp admitted that he would "definitely consider" returning for a fifth installment. That was in January. Almost immediately, Disney hired screenwriter Terry Rossio to script a fifth movie, the first Pirates movie Rossio would write without Ted Elliot.
In early May, still weeks before On Stranger Tides opened, Depp admitted that "the possibilities are endless and limitless" for the character of Sparrow, which is a convenient opinion considering Depp reportedly has a "deal structure" in place for a fifth movie.
With all of that said then, is it a surprise that The Wrap is reporting that Depp is "close to signing a deal" to appear in Pirates 5? Add to the report that Depp also has had a profit-sharing component to appear in the movie franchise, which has earned just under $4 billion worldwide, and Depp's return seems inevitable.
According to The Wrap report, a rough draft of Rossio's script has already been turned in, and, because it's well-known that Depp has to approve the script before joining, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and others are meeting three or four times a week to make sure the script will satisfy the actor.
While that attention to detail will ultimately benefit Pirates fans, Depp's participation sure feels like a foregone conclusion.
