Naomie Harris' Role in James Bond 23 Revealed; Javier Bardem Confirmed?

So far, the cast of director Sam Mendes' upcoming James Bond 23 (working title) is quite small, with only Daniel Craig and Judi Dench set to return as Agent 007 and M, respectively. Actors Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes have been rumored to play the movie's villains, with Bardem admitting in February that he was interested but hadn't accepted the role yet. Fiennes' role is reportedly that of a "darkly complex" villain.
Last month, British actress Naomie Harris (28 Days Later, Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy) was rumored for a Bond girl role in the movie, something she confirmed, revealing that she indeed auditioned for a role but was not sure which one, as she read for Mendes with a scene from Quantum of Solace. What part she read for has finally been revealed.
The Daily Mail reports that Harris is in final negotiations for the role of Miss Moneypenny, a character that has long been a part of the James Bond tradition, but has been absent ever since Pierce Brosnan made his final Bond movie with 2002's Die Another Day. The character, first played by Lois Maxwell from 1962's Dr. No to 1985's A View to a Kill, is M's assistant and typically enjoys a constant flirtation with Bond. Whether that is how Mendes will still treat the character is unknown.
As for Fiennes and Bardem, the Daily Mail report also claims that the two actors are set to appear in the movie, which is the closest to a confirmation as has been revealed so far, though it could also be a wishful thinking. Shooting on James Bond 23 is set to start in September, so a more official confirmation could be on the way soon. With The Dark Tower adaptation being delayed until next year, Bardem may have time for the movie, while Fiennes should be done with Wrath of the Titans in time as well.
Craig certainly is no help, revealing absolutely nothing about the production in a recent interview with Esquire.
This has become my way, it's as simple as that. I mean, since I've just become James Bond. And I think, you know, that means being something that people feel they own. And all of the sudden I'm getting magazine covers, when I got nothing for ten years before that. I say it's just pure luck. And doing covers, people interviewing me, and they want to know everything and I'm going, I'm not gonna f**king tell you!
