Summer 2011 is soooo last year (ok, not technically). With this summer more than halfway over and with Transformers and Harry Potter already released, it's time to start salivating over the tentpole releases of 2012, including the highly anticipated The Amazing Spider-Man starring Andrew Garfield as the masked superhero.
Up until now, we've only been able to drool over some grainy "spy" pics from Sony's movie sets. Well, fest your eyes on some official high-res shots of your new Spidey.
EW.com has 15 new photos from the reboot and with a hint of hyperbole, they are the most awesome thing to ever hit the web.
There are shots of Garfield in full costume, a detailed shot of Spidey's mechanical web-shooters (a welcomed change from Sam Raimi's trilogy), Martin Sheen and Sally Field as Peter Parker's uncle and aunt, and we get to see Emma Stone, who plays love interest Gwen Stacy, play nurse to a buffed up and beaten up Garfield. Plus a first look at Rhys Ifans before he transforms into Lizard.
After seeing Garfield as the new Spider-man, all we have to say is Tobey who?
The Amazing Spider-Man was written by James Vanderbilt and Alvin Sargent and directed by Marc Webb and takes Peter Parker back to high school so he can be bitten by a radioactive spider all over again. The cast also includes Campbell Scott and Julianne Nicholson as Peter's parents, Richard and Mary Parker; Irrfan Khan as Van Atter; Denis Leary as Gwen's father, Capt. George Stacy; C. Thomas Howell as Ray, a character that is possibly new; and Chris Zylka as Flash Thompson, the bully who made Parker's life hell in high school.
