Casting News: Kevin Costner Joins Django Unchained; Emma Watson Attached to Beauty and the Beast

Kevin Costner is back.
After appearing in only a handful of movies over the past several years, the actor has recently lined up several high-profile roles, including Jonathan Kent in the upcoming Superman reboot Man of Steel. Now comes news that he's been cast in director Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, which follows a freed slave (Jamie Foxx) who trains with a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) in order to reclaim his wife from a plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio).
THR reports that Costner's role won't be that of a hero. Instead, Costner will play a "vile and sadistic trainer of slaves." In the movie, slaves are pitted against one another in death matches for DiCaprio's amusement.
The Weinstein Company has set a December 25, 2012, release date for Django Unchained, which will co-star Tarantino regular Samuel L. Jackson as DiCaprio's valet, Stephen.
Harry Potter actress Emma Watson — who is currently filming her role in director Stephen Chbosky's adaptation of his novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower — has lined up another post-Potter role.
ComingSoon reports that producer Denise Di Novi (Crazy, Stupid, Love) and Guillermo del Toro are working together to produce an adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, with Watson attached in what we assume will be the "Beauty" role. No other details about the movie were revealed, but we assume that it isn't likely to come together for a little while.
Watson can next be seen in My Week with Marilyn on November 4 — after, of course, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, now playing at your local theater.
