Director John Luessenhop (Takers) has slowly been assembling the cast for his upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel/reboot, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D.
Earlier this month, Alexandra Daddario (Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief) was cast in the female lead role of Heather, who travels to a small town in Texas to collect her inheritance, only to find out that it includes a live item — her cousin, the notorious serial killer Leatherface. A week later, Tania Raymonde (Lost) joined Daddario as Heather's sarcastic best friend, and potential Leatherface fodder, Nikki.
Rather than allows the casting announcements to trickle out, Lionsgate had announced the rest of the cast for the movie, which will include some new, as well as some old, faces.
It's no surprise that Leatherface would return in the movie, but he will do so in two forms: one is newcomer Dan Yeager, who will play the iconic killer and unfortunate cousin to Heather. Lussenhop describes the 6’ 6” actor as having "huge farm boy arms, a brooding brow. He’s quiet, circumspect, and immediately struck a menacing chord with me. After five minutes, I could no longer think of anyone else for the role."
The second form of Leatherface will occur with Gunnar Hansen, who first played the role of Leatherface in director Tobe Hooper's 1974 original. Hansen will appear in a cameo in Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D, which is being conceived as a direct sequel to Hooper's original.
Two other familiar faces joining the movie are Marilyn Burns, John Dugan and Bill Moseley. Burns, who played the lead in the original movie, will play the role of Vera Carson, while Dugan, who played Grandfather Sawyer in the original, will be reprising his role. Moseley, who played Choptop in Hooper’s 1983 sequel, will play Drayton Sawyer, a role originally portrayed by the late Jim Siedow. "Moseley is the perfect choice to capture some of the essence that Siedow had brought to the character," explained Lussenhop.
Amongst the new faces in the cast are R&B singer Trey Songz, who will play Heather's boyfriend Ryan in his debut acting role, Keram Malicki-Sanchez (John Q), who plays Ryan’s friend, and Shaun Sipos (Final Destination 2), who plays Darryl, a hitchhiker along for the ride who knows more than he lets on.
Scott Eastwood was previously announced to be cast in the male lead role of Carl, who is actually a Deputy working with Thom Barry, who plays the aptly named Sheriff Hooper. Paul Rae is set to play the Mayor, and Richard Riehle plays the Sawyer family attorney.
Principal photography on the movie has already begun in Shreveport, Louisiana.
