Release Dates for Judge Dredd Reboot and Joss Whedon's The Cabin in the Woods

After what seemed like a promotional black hole, a new, albeit dark, photo of Karl Urban as comic book character Judge Dredd emerged last week — the first sign of life from the upcoming Dredd reboot since the first photo of Urban surfaced last November.
While production on Dredd began last August and wrapped in March, the movie now, finally, has a release date. Deadline reports it will hit theaters on September 21, 2012, arriving in 3-D. The "a day-in-the-life" movie follows Dredd patrolling Mega City One and training his telepathic rookie partner, Judge Anderson (Olivia Thirlby).
Urban has described Dredd as a "very gritty, hardcore, faithful adaptation", saying it's unlike the 1995 adaptation that starred Sylvester Stallone. Urban also promises that Dredd will "keep the helmet on."
This isn't the first time a release date has been reported for The Cabin in the Woods, the horror/comedy from director Drew Goddard (screenwriter of Cloverfield) and screenwriter Joss Whedon (director of the upcoming The Avengers).
Shot in 2009, the movie was initially scheduled for an October 23 release that year, then quickly rescheduled for February 5, 2010. Next, the studio decided to delay the release until January 2011 so it could convert Cabin to 3-D. Then MGM's financial problems pushed Cabin's release date into the abyss, with Lionsgate stepping in to pick up the movie's distribution rights.
Finally, it looks like Cabin in the Woods has a release date that will stick, with Box Office Mojo reporting it's scheduled for April 13, 2012. The cast is headed by Chris Hemsworth (Thor, The Avengers), who was an unknown at the time of shooting. Jesse Williams, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, and Kristen Connolly also star. The five actors play friends who head up to the proverbial "cabin in the woods" and discover something horrific. Richard Jenkins (Let Me In) and Bradley Whitford (West Wing) also co-star.
