Comic-Con Footage of Sci Fi Thriller In Time Starring Justin Timberlake

2011's Comic-Con was a first for Justin Timberlake, who was there to promote the upcoming sci-fi thriller In Time. Timberlake joined co-star Amanda Seyfried (Red Riding Hood) and director Andrew Niccol (Gattaca, Simone) at the Twentieth Century Fox panel to discuss the movie, which is set in a world where no one ages past 25, but once they reach that age, they only have one year left. Therefore, time becomes the currency that runs the world. Niccol explained the premise to WSJ after the panel ended.
Everyone has this body clock and it’s really that invention that’s the death of all other inventions. The poor have no time to create anything and the rich have no incentive.
With none of the characters live past 25, the casting process became unusual, with Niccol explaining (via Gordon and the Whale) that casting became about finding an actor that had the right "spirit" outside of their age.
I had to look for new souls and old souls because everyone looks like they’re 25, but they’re actually anywhere from 25 - 105 years old. It was a challenge because you couldn’t just find an old character actor to fill a grouchy old man type of character in the background, you had to find that spirit in a 25 year old actor and you had to do it across the board.
Since every actor was around the same age, that meant that Olivia Wilde could play Timberlake's mother, despite, as Timberlake pointed out, the fact that the actress is "2-3 years younger." It also gave Cillian Murphy (Inception) a chance to play a role he had never played before. "He’s brilliant," said Timberlake. "He has such a utilitarian presence in this role that he hasn’t played before. It was great to work with him."
The extended trailer shown at the Comic-Con is now available from IGN. Check it out below.
