New Poster and Trailer for Battleship Will Sink Your Expectations

For those wondering how Universal was going to adapt the Milton-Bradley board game Battleship into a live-action movie, wonder no more because the first trailer for Battleship has arrived courtesy of Yahoo!.
In January, James Cameron criticized the Battleship adaptation, calling it an example of everything that's wrong in Hollywood. "We have a story crisis," said Cameron at the time. "Now they want to make the Battleship game into a film. This is pure desperation."
Desperation? To include aliens in a movie adaptation of a board game that previously had no aliens? And here we thought Cameron loved creatures from another world. No matter. We're sure Cameron's comments had no effect on director Peter Berg and his team of writers (initial draft by Whiteout's Jon and Erich Hoeber, with revisions by Rounders' Brian Koppelman and David Levien) who turned Battleship into an easily recognizable movie about a rebellious Naval officer (Taylor Kitsch) who can only earn the trust of his commanding officer and future father-in-law (Liam Neeson) by destroying an alien invasion by avoiding the rules of engagement created by Milton-Bradley.
Well, take that, Mr. Cameron.
Battleship opens May 18, 2012, and co-stars Brooklyn Decker as Kitsch's fiancée and Neeson's daughter Sam, Alexander Skarsgard as Kitsch's older brother and Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson, and pop singer Rihanna in her feature debut as Petty Officer Raikes, Kitsch's crewmate and weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones.
