First Concept Artwork from Riddick 3

Fan-friendly actor Vin Diesel has once again used his personal Facebook page (an incredible 26.9 million "likes" and climbing!) to offer an update on the sequel to The Chronicles of Riddick that he first mentioned on his Facebook page back in August 2009. Diesel celebrated his 44th birthday last week and, according to his most recent post, was sent a piece of concept art from Riddick 3 (formerly The Chronicles of Riddick: Dead Man Stalking) by writer/director David Twohy, which he just "had to share" with his fans. The piece, titled "Badlands," is by artist Vance Kovacs and shows the mighty Riddick striding across a devastated landscape as a fractured moon hovers in the sky overheard.
In previous Facebook posts, Diesel has revealed that much of the delay in Universal green-lighting Riddick 3 has revolved around his and Twohy's insistence that the third installment (fourth if you count the direct-to-DVD animated movie The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury) in the franchise go back to the hard-R rating that the first movie, Pitch Black, had and which The Chronicles of Riddick abandoned for a PG-13 rating. Diesel has revealed that he is so committed to Riddick 3 and his fans that he is even willing to work for scale (Screen Actors Guild-approved minimum rate of pay for actors). In addition to the rating and budget mirroring Pitch Black's, the setting and plot of Riddick 3 also seem to hearken back to the original movie as revealed in the synopsis that was released last year:
Betrayed by his own kind and left for dead on a desolate planet, Riddick (Diesel) fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before. Soon bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy descend on Riddick only to find themselves pawns in his greater scheme for revenge. With his enemies right where he wants them, Riddick unleashes a vicious attack of vengeance before returning to his home planet of Furya to save it from destruction.
No other cast members have been announced for Riddick 3 and the only other creator known to be working on the movie is Patrick Tatopoulos, the production designer on such movies as I, Robot and Underworld: Evolution. Diesel has also mentioned several times that he plans on filming Riddick 3 this summer, but it remains to be seen whether his timeline is accurate or not.
