Dirty Dancing Remake In the Works

Despite Hollywood's penchant to go into the archives and reboot nearly everything, there were some movie fans thought — or at least hoped — were off limits; movies that were too timeless, too adored to ever be remade. But after classics like The Karate Kid and even Footloose were rebooted, we knew nothing was off limits.
And now we have news that there is a Dirty Dancing remake in the works. According to The Hollywood Reporter Kenny Ortega, the choreographer of the 1987 original starring Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze, will direct the remake.
The opportunity to direct Dirty Dancing is like returning home for me. Growing up in the '60s on the dance floor helped define me as a person and as an artist. I am looking forward to assembling a great creative team and an exciting cast to bring Dirty Dancing to the screen for a new generation. Patrick Swayze set the bar for men dancing in the movies as Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire did before him. I believe everywhere you look there is evidence that the talent is out there and I can’t wait to begin the process of discovering the next breakout triple-threats.
Ortega is best known for being the guy behind the High School Musical franchise and directing Michael Jackson's This Is It.
This isn't the first time Hollywood has squeezed out another movie from Dirty Dancing. There was 2004's Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, but the movie had little to do with the original other than the name.
It's hard to imagine anyone other than Grey and Swayze playing Baby and Johnny, but since we'll have to face that reality soon, we might as well start playing the who-will-play-who casting game. Movieline has put together its dream cast for the sequel, with Glee's Dianna Agron playing Baby and Channing Tatum stepping in Swayze's shoes (sure the boy can dance, but can you imagine him uttering the line, "Nobody puts Baby in a corner?").
If we swallow the central characters being replaced, can we start a petition to have Wayne Knight reprise his small role from the original?
What do you think of the remake? Who do you want to see having the time of their lives?
