First Trailer for Underworld: Awakening Debuts the Return of Kate Beckinsale

Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Underworld: Awakening, the fourth installment in the Underworld franchise. It's been only a few years since the last sequel, 2009's Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (which was actually a prequel to the previous two movies), but the first Underworld movie in five years for Kate Beckinsale, who (mostly) skipped out on Rise of the Lycans, outside of a recorded monologue and a re-used scene.
Beckinsale is back as the vampire Selene for Awakening, as she escapes from her comatose imprisonment to find that humans have discovered that vampires and werewolves exist and are trying to wipe them out. Selene then teams with a police detective (Michael Ealy) to bring down the evil BioCom corporation.
Like Rise of the Lycans, Awakening won't be directed by Len Wiseman, Beckinsale's husband and the director of the first two Underworld movies. Swedish directing team Mans Marlind and Björn Stein (Shelter) take over Awakening, but for those worried about the transition, the trailer shows that the sequel maintains the same blue-hued, black leather-clad look of the other movies, and still arms vampires with handguns.
The script for Awakening was written by John Hlavin (TV's The Shield) with rewrites by J. Michael Straczynski (Changeling). Stephen Rea (The Crying Game) co-stars.
