Chris Tucker's last role was in 2007's Rush Hour 3, but the actor-comedian is looking to make a comeback with roles in two upcoming movies: director David O. Russell's follow-up to The Fighter, The Silver Linings Playbook, and 20th Century Fox's upcoming comedy Neighborhood Watch.
Variety reports that Tucker is in talks for The Silver Linings Playbook, based on the 2008 novel by Matthew Quick. The movie follows Bradley Cooper as a former high school teacher who is released from a mental institution, moves in with his mother, and tries to win back his ex-wife but falls for his neighbor (Jennifer Lawrence) instead. Robert De Niro will play Cooper's father, while Tucker will play Danny, Cooper's friend in the mental institution. Production will begin this fall, with Tucker likely joining once he finishes his stand-up tour in November.
Tucker is also eying a role in Neighborhood Watch, which stars Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill and Vince Vaughn as dads who set up a Neighborhood Watch group to escape from their families and then accidentally uncover a plot to destroy the world. Tucker would play Jamarcus, a recent divorcee and one of the dads.
Written by Superbad's Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, Neighborhood Watch will be directed by Akiva Schaffer (Hot Rod) and is set for a July 27, 2012 release.
The first collaboration between actress Carey Mulligan (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps) and director Nicolas Winding Refn is the action thriller Drive, which opens September 16. It won't be their last movie together.
While attending the Deauville Film Festival in Deauville, France, Refn revealed that one of his next projects will be the sex thriller I Walk With the Dead, which will star Mulligan. Refn will shoot the movie after he wraps the Western Only God Forgives in Bangkok with his other Drive star, Ryan Gosling. "I only make genre movies," Refn told THR.
As for what I Walk With the Dead will be about, it won't be Mulligan taking a long hike with zombies, as the title suggests. Refn told The Playlist in July of 2010 that the thriller will mostly be concerned with one thing: "sex."
I’ve always wanted to make a movie with lots of sex. So I wrote this story called, I Walk With The Dead and it takes place in Miami and its just going to have a lot of sex in it. I have two films that are getting made with French investors and one is Only God Forgives and one is I Walk With The Dead.
Sounds like its a good thing it won't be zombies from Refn's description, but, then, he also didn't rule it out either. Still, I Walk With the Dead won't happen for a little while. Up next for Mulligan is the 3-D adaptation of The Great Gatsby, where the actress will play Daisy Buchanan.
