Star Trek 2: Director J.J. Abrams Set to Return
09.15.11 by Ryan
While J.J. Abrams has done plenty of talking about his upcoming Star Trek sequel, the director hasn't formally committed to Star Trek 2 (working title)... Until now. Vulture reports that Abrams has committed to the movie, going on to say that pre-production is underway, the script is expected by month's end, and filming will start this winter.
This is cautionary good news for Star Trek's many hardcore fans — and even those who jumped on the bandwagon with the 2009 reboot — since this word of Abrams' official involvement comes from "insiders" who spoke to Vulture. However, Abrams was reportedly "moving towards a commitment" in July and there's been no reason to question his involvement.
What will the sequel be about? That's yet to be answered. Perhaps more will be revealed once Abrams officially announces his return to the franchise.
