Latest The Muppets Parody Trailer Targets The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

The marketing campaign for the upcoming The Muppets has taken an unusual and fun path, concentrating on parody trailers to go along with the actual trailer released in June.
The latest parody trailer makes light of the dark trailer for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo remake, which made use of numerous title cards interspersed with footage from the movie. The Muppets parody trailer takes that style and takes it a step farther, and perceptive viewers will catch glimpses of a few of the movie's many cameos, including Rico Rodriguez (ABC's Modern Family), comedian Sarah Silverman, Neil Patrick Harris (The Smurfs) and Alan Arkin (Little Miss Sunshine).
The first parody trailer, released earlier this summer, targeted the romantic comedy genre, pulling a bait-and-switch with the title Green with Envy that revealed a love story between Jason Segel and Amy Adams that probably had some viewers gagging before Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the gang showed up to reveal the trailer was actually for The Muppets. The next two parody trailers poked fun at The Hangover Part II, and introduced "the Fuzzy Pack", while the third took on superheroes in a Green Lantern parody.
For those wondering what the actual Muppets movie will be about, it will follow Segel and Adams as two of the Muppet's biggest fans, as they reunite the troupe in order to save their theater from a wealthy oilman named Tex Richman (Chris Cooper), who wants to destroy it so he can drill for oil underneath. Segel co-wrote the Muppets script with his Saving Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller, with James Bobin (Flight of the Conchords) directing.
