Touchstone Pictures is pulling out all of the stops to get the word out about Real Steel, the upcoming sci-fi sports movie that stars Hugh Jackman as a trainer and promoter of robot boxers. In addition to standard movie marketing practices like putting up billboards, airing TV spots and releasing preview clips, "making of" featurettes and posters online, Touchstone is also running a pretty lively viral campaign and even had Jackman appear during a live taping of the WWE Raw SuperShow to get wrestling fans hyped to see the movie.
Now, Touchstone is taking the Real Steel message to the friendly skies. At LAX yesterday, a new Virgin America Airbus A320 was unveiled dressed in a special livery promoting the movie with a giant image of "Atom," the underdog robot that Jackman's character trains for the main event. Jackman was on hand for the unveiling and posed for photos, signed autographs and spoke with IAmRogue about working with Sugar Ray Leonard, being a "corner man" and special effects so good that you will believe a robot can box.
If that's not enough, two new preview clips from Real Steel were also released online yesterday. In the first one, Charlie (Jackman) takes Atom's predecessor, Noisy Boy, to the underground to compete in a non-sanctioned fight.
In the second clip, Charlie tries to smooth-talk his ex (Evangeline Lilly) into keeping her dad's gym.
