Shawn Levy (Still) Wants to Direct Fantastic Voyage and Frankenstein

Back in February, it was announced that Shawn Levy would be continuing his relationship with 20th Century Fox by following up his latest movie for the studio, Real Steel, which opens next week, with a James Cameron-produced "re-imagining" of Fantastic Voyage, the 1966 sci-fi movie about a team of scientists who are shrunken to the size of microbes so they can perform a delicate operation inside the brain of one of their colleagues. After months went by without an update, it was reported that Levy might move on because of the lack of momentum on the project. Then, when Levy signed on to direct an adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein for Fox last month, it was assumed that he was going to direct the movie in lieu of Fantastic Voyage. However, in a recent interview with Collider, Levy revealed that he wants to make both movies, he's just not sure which one will be next. He also hinted that it's a "possibility" that he might agree to direct The Flash comic book movie adaptation if Warner Bros. asks him a second time.
They’re both possibilities. I’m meeting with actors regarding both movies right now. I love them both and I want to make them both, but I don’t know if it’s one two or two one. But I’d say within a month I will be able to tell you with certainty which will be my spring movie.
They're both me and they're both Fox. I'm not doing any kind of, like, smoke and mirrors. I legitimately love both, I've put myself into the script on both, I'm talking with the producers of both and actors for both.
Though Levy makes no mention of it, it's obvious that his future plans with Fox depend greatly upon how well Real Steel does at the box office. In addition to Fantastic Voyage and Frankenstein, Levy also has other projects in the pipeline with Fox, including an untitled action adventure movie that would see him re-teaming with Jackman, and a big-screen adaptation of author Roger Hargreaves' Mr. Men children's books that he is producing through his 21 Laps Entertainment banner.
