The Muppets' New Posters and Synopsis Reveal a Possible Focus on Animal

Last week,The Muppets focused their promotional energy on Facebook, with Miss Piggy urging fans to be part of the Muppet fan-athon in an effort to get to a bazillion likes on the official Muppet Facebook page, and on Friday devoting the page to Fozzie Bear and letting him tell bad jokes. This week, it looks like they're looking past social media and promoting the movie in more traditional ways. Four new posters have been released for The Muppets, and the gang is looking fuzzier than ever.
Hollywood.com got the first glimpse of the new posters, which include character posters of Kermit, Miss Piggy and Animal, and a group photo that features those three with Gonzo and Beaker thrown in as well. Between the posters and the movie's official synopsis, it looks like the bad-boy drummer of the Electric Mayhem is going to play a bigger role in the upcoming flick than he has in the earlier Muppet movies.
Animal is usually a background player in most stories following the adventures of the Muppets, his main activities usually being limited to breaking things, playing drums, and yelling his own name. Occasionally his actions move along some part of the plot, but he's usually not a key player. The fact that he is among the first three Muppets to get their own character posters for this movie, and since he's mentioned specifically in the movie synopsis, makes us thing that he's going to be a bigger part of The Muppets
than he was in The Great Muppet Caper
, Muppets Take Manhattan
or The Muppet Movie
Here's the synopsis
On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world's biggest Muppet fan, his brother Gary (Jason Segel) and Gary’s
girlfriend Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris
Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets' former stomping
grounds. To stage a telethon and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help
Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino
tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa
Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. With signature celebrity
cameos, Disney’s “The Muppets” hits the big screen Nov. 23, 2011.
Animal being calm and tranquil in a retreat in Santa Barbara? Hard to imagine.
