Mark Wahlberg to Reunite with Contraband Director for Comic Book Adaptation 2 Guns

In August, Mark Wahlberg joined the comic adaptation of 2 Guns just as The Fighter director David O. Russell was dropping out. Looks like Wahlberg will reunite with his Contraband director instead.
Variety reports that Baltasar Kormákur is in negotiations to direct 2 Guns which follows a DEA agent and a naval intelligence officer who separately go undercover to steal mob money while simultaneously investigating each other. While not the exact same plot, Contraband, as revealed in the movie's first trailer, sees Wahlberg brought back into the world of smuggling in order to save his family. Reportedly, the trailer got good online buzz, which helped convince the studio to hire the Icelandic director.
Interestingly, the Variety report mentions Russell's rewrite of Blake Masters' script, though the August report on Wahlberg's casting specifically said that Universal was "focusing" on Masters' previous script. We'll see which one the studio ends up using.
Based on the graphic novel by writer Steven Grant and artist Mat Santolouco, here's the official synopsis from Boom! Studios.
A pulp story about cops and thieves and the men that are something in between. Trench has targeted a local bank to rob, and asked Steadman in on the job. Trench figures it's a great way to score — considering it's a cover for mob money. They'll be thieves ripping off thieves. But what Steadman doesn't know is that Trench is a DEA agent. And what Trench doesn't know is that Steadman's a Naval Intelligence officer. They're both cops! And neither one knows that they're not robbing the mob, they've been set up to steal $50 million from the CIA!
