Russell Crowe Revealed as Jor-El in Man of Steel Set Photos

While some "spy" set photos have had a tendency to spoil upcoming movies — such as those revealing plot details that were taken from the Pittsburgh shoot of the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises — the only spoiler the set photos from the upcoming Superman reboot, Man of Steel, have revealed is to show off the costumes worn by the cast members.
The latest set photos come from The Daily Mail, and depict Russell Crowe in full costume as Jor-El, Superman's biological father, as Crowe stepped out from the Vancouver set of the movie to smoke a cigarette. The emblem of a "S" is apparent on the costume, but doesn't stand out as it does on Superman's costume, as revealed in the movie's first official still.
Crowe is taking over a role originally portrayed by Marlon Brando, who played the same part in 1978's Superman. Brando's role wasn't much larger than a cameo, so it will be interesting to see whether Crowe's role is a meatier one.
Up to now fans have also caught glimpses of an eyeglasses-less Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) and of the motion-capture suit worn by Michael Shannon as he plays antagonist General Zod, just to mention a few.
Man of Steel was written by David Goyer (The Dark Knight) from a story he conceived with producer Christopher Nolan, and co-stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent and Ayelet Zurer as Lara Lor-Van, Superman's biological mother and Crowe's on-screen wife.
