Official Synopsis For Taken 2 Released; Villain Cast
10.15.11 by Ryan
After the phenomenal success of the 2009 thriller Taken, which grossed $224 million worldwide, a sequel was only a matter of time. Liam Neeson announced the sequel was officially happening in March, and mentioned that it might be his character that gets abducted in the sequel. Maggie Grace, who played Neeson's daughter in the original, was announced as returning a month later.
Just a few days ago, 20th Century Fox announced the release date for Taken 2, which will arrive on October 5, 2012.
Now we known what the sequel will be about with the release of the official synopsis.
Liam Neeson returns as Bryan Mills, the retired CIA agent with a particular set of skills who stopped at nothing to save his daughter Kim (Grace) from Albanian kidnappers. When the father of one of the kidnappers swears revenge, and takes Bryan and his wife hostage during their family vacation in Istanbul, Bryan enlists Kim to help them escape, and uses the same advanced level of special forces tactics to get his family to safety and systematically take out the kidnappers one by one.
You gotta hand it to Neeson, he told the truth. So who is the one that takes Neeson and his wife? Which actor will have a face off between Neeson in the movie's final minutes? You know Fox will pull out a big name for such a high-profile sequel, so they cast...Rade Sherbedgia?
It's true. Not exactly a household name, THR reports that Sherbedgia, whom audiences might remember from his split-second role as a Russian naval commander in Fox's X-Men: First Class this summer, has been cast as Murad, the vengeful father of the kidnapper from the first Taken. Famke Janssen, who played Neeson's ex-wife in the first movie, will also return.
Taken 2 was written by Robert Mark Kamen and Luc Besson, both of whom wrote Taken as well. Olivier Megaton (Transporter 3) will direct the production, which is set to start shooting in Turkey and France later this month.
